Knut Erik Jensen (born October 8, 1940 in Honningsvåg ) is a Norwegian film director and screenwriter.

Life

He was born in Honningsvåg in northern Norway to the fisherman Togo Jensen (1904–1983) and the saleswoman Anbjørg Marie Lund (1910–1992). Jensen came to Harstad in 1945 as a refugee during World War II . He graduated from school in 1961 and then studied French , Russian and history. A visit to the International Film School in London followed in 1972/73 . In addition, he completed training courses for the Norwegian broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting , including on journalism, dramaturgy and camera technology. He was initially successful with documentaries . His first film was Andrew in 1973. The impressionistic -looking, landscape and environment intensely depicting Spitzbergen in der Welt from 1983 is considered his breakthrough and was the first film in a trilogy about Spitzbergen . Jensen also created several feature films, short films, and television series.

Honors

He has been nominated several times for the Amanda film award, which he won with Fiery and Enthusiastic in the categories of Best Documentary and Best Fiction . The film also received the European Film Award for best documentary in 2001 . He works with the men's choir from Berlevåg and was also a great success with the public in Norway. Jensen was appointed knight 1st class of the St. Olav Order .

His hometown Honningsvåg put the Knut Erik Jensen statue in his honor .
