The Knuthenborg Park & Safari is a theme park in Denmark , of the manor park of Knuthenborg between Bandholm and Maribo on the island of Lolland has been created and is the largest safari and adventure park in northern Europe.

The park has an area of almost 600 hectares, is surrounded on the west and south by a stone wall more than 7 km long and 2.5 meters high with four entrance gates (including Maglemer Tor, Bandholm Tor) and was originally built around 1866 laid out in the English style. The safari park was only founded in 1969 when Count Adam W. Knuth, whose family has owned the park for more than 300 years, brought the first animals from Africa (zebras, ostriches and antelopes) to Bandholm. Today you can drive the more than 15 km of paths by car to see the more than 900 animals, whereby you can also leave the car in many places and experience the animals up close and without fences and bars.

The park is divided into different sections, which are based on the continents. Animals originally from Africa such as zebras , giraffes , ostriches , antelopes , wildebeests and rhinos , as well as Watussi cattle , domestic donkeys , Nubian goats , African dwarf goats and screw- horned sheep live in the area known as the “ savannah ” . There is also a separate area for monkeys ( baboons ) and monkeys ( lemurs ). Animals such as the water buffalo , the yak , the Japanese sika deer , but above all the Siberian tigers , come from Asia and are housed in their own enclosure that can only be accessed by car and for which strict safety precautions apply. The Australian wilderness is represented by kangaroos and emus , the prairies of North America and the pampas of South America by bison and elk .

In addition to the zoo, there is Denmark's largest natural playground on the site.
