Cooking is Chefsache (original title: Comme un chef ) is a French comedy film by director Daniel Cohen from 2012 , which was released in German cinemas on June 7, 2012.

action

The famous chef Alexandre Lagarde in Paris is threatened with losing one of his three stars and his noble restaurant because on the one hand he refuses the molecular cuisine popular with the critics and on the other hand the financier wants to modernize the restaurant all around. By chance he meets Jacky Bonnot, an idiosyncratic and misunderstood culinary artist who has to work as a painter. Jacky refines Alexandre's dishes with his own resources, as he has continued to research his cooking styles over the years, which has been well received by the critics. Alexandre's new manager wants to replace him with a younger chef if he loses a star and threatens to smuggle critics into his restaurant. Together with Jacky, Alexandre creates the new menu, which, thanks to a daring action, now also includes molecular dishes. This is well received by the critics, which is why Alexandre does not lose a star. However, he hands over the management of his restaurant to Jacky in order to run a small restaurant in the country himself. However, together they continue their television show.

Reviews

“The stoic Reno and the babbling Youn make a nicely contrasting pair and some of the dialogues have a delightful flavor. For a long time, however, what is offered remains home-style cooking. The script is overdrawn without being original. The secondary characters remain two-dimensional, the twists and turns in the plot are as surprising as the daily menu at a motorway service station. "

- Wenke Husmann : The time

“Not only Jean Reno, but also French comedy has calmed down. It will be reconciled instead of divided, anarchy was yesterday. Instead of petty bourgeois anger, there is international flair in the competition of styles and quirks. For a Francophile foreign market that can't get enough of cute brasseries, the tasty film also seems to have been made. "

- Philipp Bühler : Frankfurter Rundschau

"Airy, light summer comedy about the 'trend sport' of cooking, which sometimes comes across as too lively and jolly, but on the whole is solid and charming."
