The Weinhaus Kockelkorn & Vaaßen was a winery and wine tavern in Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia . The address was Marktplatz  2.

The patrician house from 1499, which was only inhabited by patricians from 1499 to 1800 , was called " The Golden Star " and was later popularly called "Kapellchen". The oldest inhabitant of the house is attested from 1499 Wilhelm von Meißheim, married to Katharina von Marcken. Without exception, this house was inhabited only by wealthy citizens for centuries and was always inherited by women.

In 1807 Johann Peter Kockelkorn opened his wine tavern in the Stern house .

Johann Peter Kockelkorn was born in Klinkheide, Pannesheide (north of Aachen , today Herzogenrath ). His parents were Matthias Joseph Kockelkorn and Anna Maria Goebbels, both of whom died in Eilendorf . Johann Peter Kockelkorn was married twice. The income from the wine bar may have been very small at first; therefore Peter Kockelkorn was looking for a sideline . He is mentioned in 1810 as a geometer and in 1816 as a postal director. Johann Peter Kockelkorn died at the age of 69 on November 30, 1856 in Düren.

After the death of JP Kockelkorn, the house was again inherited by women. His daughter Sophia Kockelkorn married the Prime-Lieutenant Johann Adam Vaaßen on April 30, 1860 . The common company name Kockelkorn & Vaaßen comes from this marriage . Joh. Adam Vaaßen died after just two years and the widow was solely responsible for the continuation of the business. After the death of Sophie Vaaßen born Kockelkorn on July 27, 1890, there were also no male heirs to continue the wine industry. It passed to her sister Josephine Kockelkorn on November 7, 1891. In 1895 Josephine Kockelkorn handed over her property for ten years to Peter Zisch, who had already bought the house in 1900. Peter Zisch died on March 11, 1909 at the age of 49; Successor until 1915 was Josef Zisch. The widow of Peter Zisch, Louise b. Finger, successfully managed the company. On October 13, 1922, Peter Papst married the daughter of the house, Marianne Zisch, and took over the management. In 1924, Peter Papst had the house built with a basement at the back of the house, thereby gaining storage space to increase his wine supplies. In 1932, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of "Kockelkorn & Vaaßen", he had the facade re-labeled and the old windows replaced with old German window glazing. The old patrician house on Marktplatz 2 from 1499 was completely destroyed in the air raid on Düren on November 16, 1944 .

The new beginning

The first sales point of "Kockelkorn & Vaaßen" after the war in 1944 took place in August-Klotz-Straße No. 2. A year later, on December 3, 1949, Peter Papst opened the new office at 16 Schenkelstrasse. From May 27, 1966, the house at the corner of Marktplatz No.1 / Weierstrasse was also used as a sales point by the house owner Josef Papst. After the death of Josef Papst on January 4th, 1990 the company "Kockelkorn & Vaaßen" was finally closed and the house at Marktplatz 1 passed to Benno Papst and on January 1st, 1991 to Walter Papst. The house at Marktplatz 1 was sold to the then Städtische Sparkasse Düren in 1991 . After two years of renovation of the house, a "Kockelkorn bistro" was opened in May 1993 by the tenant Trudi Boldin from Düren. The house at Schenkelstrasse 16 later went to Ingrid Lummer geb. Pope in succession, who later sold the house to the Kreissparkasse Düren. This building was demolished on January 20, 1996 for the construction of the city square.
