Kimura made his international debut at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2017 in Park City , where he finished 38th in the Eintel using the Gundersen method and eighth with the team. It was almost a year before his next international assignment before he made his debut in the Continental Cup in Klingenthal at the beginning of January 2018 . After he reached the points on the first day of the competition, he made it into the top places in tenth place on the second day. In the further course of the season he regularly faced the competition in the Continental Cup, where he recommended himself with further good results for a new nomination for the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2018 in Kandersteg . There he achieved passable results with ninth place in the Gundersen singles and 17th place in the sprint. With good results at the start of the Continental Cup 2018/19 , Kimura continued to attract attention, so that he was appointed to the World Cup team for the first time at the beginning of January 2019 , but missed the points in Otepää . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2019 , he again finished in the top 10 in the Gundersen singles over ten kilometers, which he also achieved with the team, but not in the sprint.
At the end of the Grand Prix 2019 in Planica , Kimura achieved a brilliant performance for the first time at the highest level. He finished fifth, just eight seconds behind the winner. The next day he was disqualified, which is why he could not win any more Grand Prix points and ultimately took 35th place in the overall standings. In the first period of the 2019/20 World Cup season , Kimura was part of the Japanese team, but always missed the points. In the second-rate Continental Cup , too, Kimura initially struggled and only achieved occasional satisfactory results. At the end of February 2020, Kimura reached the podium in the Continental Cup for the first time when he and Daimatsu Takehana , Anju Nakamura and Ayane Miyazaki finished the first mixed team competition in Eisenerz in third place behind Norway and Austria.
