Live and act

De Cauter is the son of a restaurateur, in whose Klokkeput in Sint-Martens-Latem Manouches could perform; De Cauter met Fapy Lafertin of the same age as early as 1965 , with whom he became friends. As a self-taught musician , like Lafertin, he later joined Piotto Limberger's group de Piottos , in which they spent their apprenticeship years. In 1975 they founded the Waso Quartet (named after De Cauter's little son ) with Jeff C. Wickle (rhythm guitar) and Michael Verstraeten (bass) to play the music of Django Reinhardt . In the same year, the group made their debut album, followed by four more albums with Vivi Limberger as rhythm guitarist; then De Cauter brought Tcha Limberger into the group, with whom he also appeared in the Duo Romanes (album 1996).

He also appears in the De Cauter Quintet with his sons Waso De Cauter (guitar), Dajo De Cauter (bass) and Myrddin De Cauter (clarinet) and his daughter Vigdis De Cauter (piano) .
