The 337.8 m high Kohlbuck - the name can be interpreted as a 'bare hill' - in the east of Erlenstegen is one of the abandoned quarries where Burg sandstone was quarried . Kohlbuck is also the name of the statistical district 912 in the eastern outskirts of Nuremberg and the northeastern part of Erlenstegen.

geography

The statistical district Kohlbuck is located about 5 km northeast of the center of Nuremberg. The area is crossed from north to south by the Tiefgraben, a tributary of the Pegnitz. To the west of it there is a fully built-up residential area around Hebel-, Kneipp-, Mörike-, Novalis-, Schlegel-, Tieck- and Wackenroderstraße. To the east, parallel to the brook, Günthersbühlerstraße runs, also with closed development, up to the Nuremberg shooting house, which is already in the Schafhof district . The east of the district is characterized by the forests around the eponymous Kohlbuck, only interrupted by the forest sports field and the abandoned quarries.

In the south-west, the district is bordered by Eichendorffstrasse from the neighboring district of Platnersberg . To the north of it, Stadenstrasse marks the transition to the Spitalhof district and then the north-eastern branch of the former ring railway marks the border with Schafhof. The entire north-eastern part of the area borders directly on the Erlenstegen forest , a community-free area in the Central Franconian district of Erlangen-Höchstadt which is part of the Sebalder Reichswald . In the south, both the B14 (Erlenstegenstraße) and the Nuremberg – Cheb railway line form the border to the neighboring district 913 Wasserwerk in the Pegnitz Valley .

Dig deep

The deep moat in the castle sandstone

The approx. Two kilometer long brook Tiefgraben rises in the Sebalder Reichswald am Haidberg, passes the animal shelter, flows through an underpass at the Ringbahn, past the natural garden pool, which it also feeds, then rarely emerges, mostly in a canalised bed, past the Scheurl'sches Schloss, crosses under the main road and railway embankment and then flows into the Pegnitz in a water protection area.

The deep trench has been largely redesigned in a natural way in recent years.

Landscape protection area Tiefgraben-Kohlbuck

Most of the undeveloped area of the Kohlbuck district is designated as a landscape protection area. The city of Nuremberg designates the area in the relevant ordinance as follows: No. 7 Tiefgraben-Kohlbuck (approx. 120 ha) landscape area between Erlenstegenstrasse in the south and the city limits in the north and east . The official name is Tiefgraben und Kohlbuck ( LSG-00536.15 ).

Natural garden pool

The Naturgartenbad outdoor pool is located in Kohlbuck . The deep trench feeds the swimming pools with its water. The wooded valley slopes are used as shady sunbathing areas.

Forest sports field

On the plateau of the Kohlbuck is the sports facility of the gymnastics and sports club 1846, consisting of football and tennis courts.

Ringbahn

The bridge of the former ring railway over the Tiefgraben

The connection through the Sebalder Reichswald from Nuremberg northeast to the Eichelberg junction of the Nuremberg – Eger (Cheb) railway line was shut down in 1980 and later dismantled. This part of the Ringbahn can still be clearly recognized by the bridge structures that still exist, but a large part of the part of the former route that runs through the now designated landscape protection area has now become overgrown.
