Angelique ( Japanese ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク , Anjerīku ) is the title of several computer games by Koei . The first of the games appeared in 1994. Angelique is the founder of the genre of otome games ("games for young women"), i. H. Games in which a romantic relationship has to be established (Ren'ai games), here from a woman to a man. The genre thus formed the alternative to the Bishōjo games - Ren'ai games for men. At the Otome Game of the Year 2007 , organized by the IT company FreeM, the series landed in 9th place.

Several manga , anime and radio play series were published based on the computer games .

content

The games and their adaptations take place in a universe that is ruled by a queen who is assisted by nine guardians. 17-year-old Angelique Limoges was chosen as one of the possible new queens. Now a land is being given to her that she is to settle and rule. The queen whose country is settled first will be among the candidates.

The candidates also meet the guards and can make friends with them. Should they fall in love, however, they can no longer become queen, but can continue to live happily with their love.

Games

The character design of the games comes from Yura Kairi .

Angelique

In the first part the forces of the old queen of the universe wane and the trials of the candidates begin. The player of the contender, happy but clumsy Angelique Limoges ( ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク ・ リ モ ー ジ ュ ) has to work out the cooperation of the individual guardians of the nine elements light, darkness, wind, water, fire, plants, iron, dreams and earth in order to build a continent of a planet . Her rival is the dignified Rosalia de Catargena ( ロ ザ リ ア ・ デ ・ カ タ ル ヘ ナ ).

On September 23, 1994, the Ren'ai simulation (dating sim) Angelique appeared at Koei for the Super Famicom and on December 8, 1995 the Angelique Premium Box . On December 22, 1995, NEC Electronics released Angelique Special for PC-FX , in which the music was revised and the dialogues were dubbed, but the content remained the same. Koei released a version for Sega Saturn , PlayStation and Windows 95 on March 29, 1996 , and the original Angelique was given a set to music for the Super Famicon on CD as Angelique Voice Fantasy ( ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク ヴ ォ イ ス フ ァ ン タ ジ ー ). On July 30, 1998, Koei released Angelique Duet for Sega Saturn and PlayStation ( ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク デ ュ エ ッ ト ). This is based on Angelique Special , but instead of the actual heroine, you could also use her rival Rosalia as the protagonist. On March 21, 2002, an adaptation of the original Angelique was released for the GameBoy Advance and on April 6, 2006 an adaptation of Angelique Duet for the Nintendo DS was released .

Angelique Special 2

A new universe was born out of nowhere with Angelique Limoges as Queen and Rosalia as her assistant. In the sequel Angelique Special 2 ( ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク Special2) there is again a test to choose the next ruling queen. Candidates are Angelique Collet ( ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク ・ コ レ ッ ト ), played by the player, and her rival Rachel Heart ( レ イ チ ェ ル ・ ハ ー ). This time whole planets must be recreated with the help of the guardians. The candidates are additionally trained in spirit, sensitivity and dignity by 3 teachers, and secretly supported by 3 other helpers. The number of possible love interests of the protagonist increases to 15.

The game was released on December 6, 1996 by NEC Electronics for PC-FX. Koei produced versions for Sega Saturn and Windows 95 on April 4, 1997 and for the PlayStation on April 11, 1997, each in a regular and a premium box.

Angelique Trois

In the third part Angelique Trois ( ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク ト ロ ワ ) Angelique Collet has become Queen of the New Universe with Rachel Heart as her assistant. Both and the remaining 15 men from Angelique Special 2 find themselves on a mysterious continent called Arcadia. In addition, she meets another one, so she can choose from 16 men.

The game was released on November 22, 2000 in a regular version and a premium box from Koei for the PlayStation 2 on CD-ROM. On July 5, 2002, Aizōban Angelique Trois ( 愛 蔵 版 ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク ト ロ ワ ) was released on DVD for the PlayStation 2.This included films, spoken audio files, scenes with the female characters and an excerpt from the OVA Angelique: Shiroi Tsubasa no Memoire ( ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク 白 い 翼 の メ モ ワ ー ル ).

Angelique Etoile

In Angelique Etoile ( ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク エ ト ワ ー ル ) the young Ange ( エ ン ジ ュ ) is chosen to search for the Densetsu no Etoile ( 伝 説 の エ ト ワ ー ル , English "legendary star") to save the universe. She meets the Queen Shinchō universe ( 神鳥 の 宇宙 , Shinchō no uchū , dt. "Universe of the divine bird") Angelique Limoges and her guardian, as well as the queen of the Seijū universe ( 聖 獣 の 宇宙 , seijū no uchū , Eng. "Universe of the sacred (fur) animal") Angelique Collet and her guardians. Angelique Collet's guards are the 3 teachers and the 3 helpers from the second part, as well as 3 other people. In addition to a mysterious swordsman, Ange can choose from 19 men.

The game was released on December 19, 2003 by Koei on CD for Windows. On September 16, 2004, an adaptation with additional films and scenes with sound was released on DVD for the PlayStation 2. Both versions were released in a regular and a premium box.

Neo Angelique

If the previous games were always Ren'ai simulations, Neo Angelique ( ネ オ ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク ) made the switch to the related genre of Ren'ai adventure . This went hand in hand with the abandonment of the structural simulation part and a reduction in possible love interests.

Neo Angelique was released on March 6, 2006 by Koei for the PlayStation 2. On March 27, 2008, Neo Angelique Full Voice ( ネ オ ア ン ジ ェ リ ー ク フ ル ボ イ ス ) was released with additional events and a complete voice output.
