Koitajoki ( Russian Койтайоки ) is a river in eastern Finland and partly in the Republic of Karelia in Russia .
The river has its origin on the Finnish-Russian border in the municipality of Ilomantsi in North Karelia . It runs part of the way in Finland, passing the Koivusuo reserve , then flows 30 km south through the Republic of Karelia and then returns to Finland. It now flows in a north-westerly direction. It flows through Lake Nuorajärvi , at the southern end of which is the Petkeljärvi National Park , and later the Kesonsuo wetland.
There is a 69 km paddling route at the middle reaches of the Koitajoki .
Further downstream, the outflow of the Koitere meets the Koitajoki from the right. At this point, about 20 km from its confluence with the Pielisjoki , most of the water is drained off. First, the water reaches two reservoirs, which are dammed up by the Heinäjoki dam and the Pamilo dam. The water is an underground tunnel with the 84- MW equipped Pamilo hydroelectric power station supplied. The height of fall is 50 m.
