Kolding Havn is the name of the seaport in the Danish city of Kolding in the Syddanmark region , which is located at the end of the approximately eleven kilometer long Kolding Fjord . With a cargo handling of 1.27 million tons in 2008, the port is one of the ten largest cargo ports in Denmark . It is also the largest port in Denmark for importing timber. In the industrial, traffic and cruise port there are more than 50 companies with over 1000 employees.

Port design

The Kolding Havn consists of a traffic port (Trafikhavnen) , which has a quay length of 2.5 kilometers. The independent association Kolding Lystbådehavn also owns two harbors for recreational yachtsmen : a northern (Lystbådehavn Nord) and a southern marina (Lystbådehavn Syd) , which together offer space for 965 boats. The southern harbor extends to the mouth of the Kolding Å .

Access to the port is via a three nautical mile long, 30 m wide and 7.3 m deep fairway that leads from the Little Belt and begins at the Drejens Odde headland at the mouth of the Kolding Fjord. They allow ships up to 190 m long, 30 m wide and 6.8 m deep to enter the port.

Both rail tracks and feeder roads lead into the 460,000 m² port area to the Danish motorways Sønderjyske Motorvej , a section of the European route 45 , and Taulovmotorvejen , which goes along with the E20 .

history

Until the end of the 17th century, when the area by the river Kolding Å and the inner fjord silted up, ships could sail as far as the Sønderbro bridge into the city center. After that, barges had to transport the goods from Drejens and Strandhuse into town. In order to remedy this situation, a port commission was set up on the initiative of the businessman Caspar F. Müller to promote the construction of a new port. In 1841, the port inspector Leth designed a port basin that was 80 m long, 57 m wide and 2.6 m deep. On October 24, 1843, the new port was finally opened, the construction costs of which amounted to around 23,500 Rigsbankdaler .

In 1872 the highest water level to date was measured at 2.75 m above mean sea level ; In 1967, however, the level reached its lowest level in the port at 1.95 m below mean sea level.

Until 1991 Kolding Havn was subject to the orders of the Danish Ministry of Transport. After that, a new port law came into force, allowing Danish ports to invest freely as independent companies as long as they did not make a loss. Since 2000, Kolding Havn has been functioning as a municipal self-administration port, where the Kolding City Council is the highest authority.

For the future, the Kolding municipality drafted a master plan that provides for an expansion of the port area by 125,000 m² by 2030.

Facilities

Kolding Havn has RoRo ramps, a heavy lift crane that can lift up to 100 tonnes and, since 2010, a fully automatic spreader with which ISO -standard containers can be handled in large numbers . There are also two overhead traveling cranes for five and 25 tonnes and four mobile cranes, each designed for four, five, 32 and 36 tonnes.
