Kolymbia ( Greek Κολύμπια ( n. Pl. ) Italian San Benedetto ) is a village in the municipality of Afandou on the east coast of the Greek island of Rhodes .

The junction to the village is roughly in the middle of the national road 95 between Rhodes town and Lindos , from which Kolymbia is about 25 kilometers away. Afandou is about five kilometers north.

Kolymbia was founded around 1935 during the Italian occupation of the Dodecanese as San Benedetto (Σαν Μπενεντέτο). A model agricultural village was created by expropriating the residents of Afandou and Archangelos. The renaming from San Benedetto to Kolymbia took place in 1961. In the early 1980s, the expansion into a holiday resort began.

As part of the Kapodistrias program from 1997, the rural communities (κοινότητες) Afandou and Archipolis were merged to form the municipality Afandou (Δήμος Αφάντου). Due to the administrative reform of 2010 , the incorporation into the newly created municipality of Rhodes ( Dimos Rodou Δήμος Ρόδου) took place on January 1, 2011 .

The eucalyptus avenue to Kolymbia

Kolymbia has three sand-pebble beaches with water sports. Well-known destinations in the area are the recreation area Epta Piges , the Tsambika monastery and the Tsambika beach in the bay of Tsambika .

Kolymbia is known for the eucalyptus avenue that leads from the east coast road about two kilometers into the place. The remains of a water channel built during the Italian occupation run along the south side of the avenue, through which the agriculture around Kolymbia was irrigated by the source pond of the Epta Piges. On the north side there are ruins of a basilica from the 6th century in the middle of the avenue.
