Kumyalı ( Greek Κώμα του Γιαλού Koma tou Gialou ) is a village on the Karpas Peninsula in the north of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus and is located in the İskele district of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus . The place had 686 inhabitants in 2011.

Kumyalı is located on the Karpas Peninsula, 15 kilometers southwest of Yeni Erenköy .

history

Before the occupation of northern Cyprus by Turkish forces, Kumyalı was inhabited by Greek Cypriots . In the 1960 census, 854 Greek Cypriots were counted, in 1973 there were 818. They fled after the invasion of southern Cyprus.

Today Kumyalı is inhabited by Cypriot Turks who settled from the Paphos district to the north. There are also Turkish settlers from the provinces of Adana and Gaziantep . Cypriot Turks who lived in the diaspora and returned to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus also bought real estate in Kumyalı or built houses. In 1978 there were 467 Cypriot Turks in Kumyalı, compared to 686 in 2011.
