2006

Mayoral elections
With the merger of the nine districts of Schmitten as part of the regional reform in Hesse in 1972, the previous mayor of Arnoldshain , Hans Kinkel (FWG), was appointed mayor of Schmitten on September 5, 1972.
On January 15, 1973, the local council of Schmitten elected Georg Hahl (CDU) as the first mayor of the large community. He prevailed with 21 to 9 votes against the former mayor of Oberreifenberg , Kurt Bernecker (SPD). Georg Hahl was elected with the votes of a CDU / FWG coalition. Hans Kinkel became the first alderman.
Parties and constituencies
UBB
The UBB Independent Citizen Block was founded in 1976 as a free electoral association. Its focus is on the districts of Oberreifenberg and Niederreifenberg . Since it was founded, the UBB has been continuously represented in the municipal council.
FWG
The Free Voting Community (FWG) Schmitten was created through the amalgamation of non-party citizens with the formation of the large community of Schmitten during the Hessian regional reform in 1972. With Marcus Kinkel, the FWG provides the mayor of the community.
b-now
The voter community b-now (citizens' list of new open voter community) ran for the first time in 2016 for the local elections in Schmitten and in the city of Neu-Anspach . In Neu-Anspach it immediately became the strongest parliamentary group and achieved an unexpectedly good result in Schmitten and immediately became the third strongest parliamentary group. Strongholds are the district of Treisberg and the Hegewiese, a residential area of Arnoldshain .
