The Kondakov Plateau ( Russian Кондаковское плоскогорье , Kondakowskoje ploskogorje) is a low mountain range up to 498  m high, about 200 by 150 km in size in the northeast of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) of Siberia and Russia ( Asia ) .

Geographical location

The Kondakov Plateau is a rocky mountain range on average around 450 km north of the Arctic Circle between Jana Indigirka Lowlands and Kolyma Lowlands , the western and eastern parts of the East Siberian Lowlands , which in turn are west, south and east of the East Siberian Highlands and north of the Laptev Sea (Rand Sea of the Arctic Ocean ) is surrounded.

The mountains drop to the north and northeast into the mouth of the Indigirka delta . To the east lies the Kolyma lowland, which is mainly traversed by the Kolyma , but also by the Sundrun, which rises in the neighboring Ulachan-Sis ridge . The landscape leads to this mountain range over the river valleys of the Great Ertscha and the north-east of this flowing Schandrin . In western directions it descends into the Jana Indigirka lowlands, through which the Indigirka flows.

The higher mountain ranges of the Kondakov plateau include the northern Bonga-Taga ridge and the southern Moxolukan Mountains, and the highest mountain is Punga-Chaja ( 498  m ) in its western part .

Geology, flora and fauna

From a geological point of view, the Kondakov Plateau consists of sandstones , silts and slates from the Upper Jura . Due to the proximity of the Arctic Laptev Sea, permafrost prevails with vegetation of moss and lichen typical of the tundra .

Localities

The Kondakov plateau is uninhabited, but are on the Indigirka the villages Vorontsovo and Olenegorsk in the southwest and Chajagasmach and Schamanowo the west and Chokurdakh the airfield Chokurdakh .
