Jana Indigirka Lowlands

The Jana Indigirka Lowlands ( Russian Яно-Индигирская низменность ) is the western part of the East Siberian Lowlands in the northeast of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) or Russia ( Asia ); the eastern part is the Kolyma lowlands .

Geographical location

The remote Jana Indigirka lowlands lie north of the Arctic Circle . It extends almost 600 km west-east to the south of the Laptev Sea and the East Siberian Sea (each part of the Arctic Ocean with the New Siberian Islands there ) between the Buor-Khaya Gulf (mouth of the Omoloi ) in the west, the northern part of the Verkhoyansk Mountains there , the east thereof lying Ulachan-Sis-comb , the east thereof lying northern end of the chersky range and its gelegenem in this direction streamer Polousnyjrücken . Geology, landscape and climate

The waters are usually covered by ice from late September or early October to late May or early June . When the ice and snow melt in summer and the frozen ground thaws, there is heavy flooding in the lowlands.

Flora and fauna

In the south of the Jana Indigirka lowlands there are sparse forests in swamp areas, mostly made up of larches . The forest and strauchtundra is represented beyond latitude 69 ° north . Reindeer migrate through the lowlands .

Localities

The Jana Indigirka lowlands are very sparsely populated, with the few localities mostly being on rivers or the sea; These include the preferred Jana-delta Nizhneyansk and the Indigirka are Olenegorsk and Chokurdakh .
