Konkhra is a Danish death metal band from Køge .

Band history

In 1988 Claus Vedel (vocals, guitar), Anders Lundemark (bass) and Lars Schmidt (drums, ex-Furious Trauma) founded Konkhra. In the style of death metal groups at the time, they played their first demo, The Vicious Circle (1990). In 1991 Malgrowth followed with Martin Kristensen on bass and Jon Clausen on drums, Lundemark had switched to guitar. The EP Stranded , which consisted mainly of old demo material, was then released on the Progress Records label . A tour supporting Brutal Truth and Fear Factory followed.

The debut album Sexual Affective Disorder was released in 1993, with Lars Schmidt as the new bass player and Johnny Nielsen as the new drummer. Lundemark and Vedel now shared the vocals. A US tour with Meatlocker and a European tour in support of Suffocation followed. In 1994 Kim Mathiesen started as a guitarist and Lundemark took over the lead vocals. 1994 began a collaboration with Fred Estby of Dismember , who produced the 1994 Facelift EP and the album Spit or Swallow . In 1995 the VHS tape Homegrowth appeared with music videos, live recordings and a session with Napalm Death , followed by the live album Live Eraser , which marked the change to Die Hard Music .

After a Scandinavian tour with Immolation and Cannibal Corpse , bassist Mathiesen and drummer Nielsen left the group to start Facelift . Chris Kontos (ex- Testament , Machine Head ) and James Murphy took over their positions .

1997 Weed Out the Weak was released , then Kontos left the group and was replaced by Per M. Jensen ( inter alia The Haunted ) for the Freakhow EP and Come Down Cold . The two subsequent albums were released six years apart - Reality Check in 2003 and Nothing Is Sacred in 2009 .

The current line-up consists of Anders Lundemark (guitar and vocals), Mads Lauridsen (drums), Lars Schmidt (bass) and Michael Skovbakke (guitar).

Music genre

After the first albums contained extremely brutal and fast-played Death Metal, Konkhra turned to a style often called Death & Roll from the live album Live Eraser . The music became catchier , more melodic and integrated more rock & roll schemes. The 1999 album Come Down Cold and the Freakshow EP with cover versions of Iron Maiden and Motörhead could almost be described as alternative rock . Only after returning in 2003 did the music become more brutal again and orientate itself back to the band's original sound.
