Konrad Escher (art historian)

Konrad Hans Escher (born October 21, 1882 in Zurich ; † April 18, 1944 there ) was a Swiss art historian .

Life

After attending grammar school in Zurich, he studied art history in Zurich, Strasbourg and Berlin. In 1906 he received his doctorate under Johann Rudolf Rahn , and in 1908 he completed his habilitation at the University of Basel . From 1918 to 1922 he was a private lecturer, from 1922 to 1928 adjunct professor and from 1928 until his death associate professor for contemporary and modern art history at the University of Zurich . In 1934 he became president of the Society for Swiss Art History and was the initiator of the series Die Kunstdenkmäler der Schweiz .

His areas of interest were mainly the Italian baroque and miniature painting.
