Konrad Hüseler

Konrad Hüseler (born January 9, 1894 in Hamburg ; died July 31, 1958 in Moorburg ) was a German art historian who worked at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg.

Life

Hüseler received his doctorate on November 6, 1922 at the University of Hamburg . He then got a job at the Museum of Art and Industry in Hamburg. On May 1, 1933, he became a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party , which helped him to succeed Max Sauerlandt . He was appointed professor that same year, worked as scientific curator until 1937 and as acting director of this museum until the end of World War II . As a museum director, he was in demand as a specialist in estimating looted property. During this time, he also bought up art collections from emigrating and emigrated Jewish citizens and equipped the museum with the most valuable of these pieces. On August 16, 1945, the management of the museum was removed from him.

As an art historian, he dealt with faience and porcelain from Holland and Germany, especially from Kiel, Hamburg and the surrounding area, but also with goldsmithing and prehistory. He also wrote some biographical contributions to the General Lexicon of Fine Artists from Antiquity to the Present .

The
Hüseler family was married to Anna Maria Magdalena (née Meyn), with whom he had a son who died in 1936. In 1937 he married Johanna (née Lüchau), who died a few months after the marriage.
