Konrad Hofmann (theologian)

Konrad Hofmann (born October 27, 1890 in Markelsheim , † July 17, 1987 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and lexicographer .

Live and act

Hofmann studied history and Catholic theology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1913 he graduated as Dr. phil. , 1914 he completed his theology degree. In 1919 he started his lexicographical work at Verlag Herder .

The first high point of his work was the editing of the Lexicon for Theology and Church, published by Bishop Michael Buchberger since 1929 . In recognition of this work he was awarded the papal New Year's Eve order since 1955 - in 1958 by the Freiburg Faculty of Theology as Dr. theol. appointed hc. His numerous own works had also contributed to this award.

He was able to complete his lexicographical work and crown it as editor-in-chief of the 5th edition of the conversation lexicon The Great Herder , which appeared in ten volumes between 1952 and 1956.

Hofmann was buried on July 21, 1987 in the Bergäcker cemetery in Freiburg- Littenweiler .
