The Konrad Lorenz Research Center (KLF) was founded in 1973 in Grünau im Almtal in Upper Austria when Konrad Lorenz returned to Austria. The research center is run by a private sponsorship association; there is a close connection to the Department of Behavioral Biology at the University of Vienna . The KLF is managed by Kurt Kotrschal .

research

Research in Grünau focuses on the behavior of gray geese , ravens and bald ibises . For example, the KLF succeeded in establishing a free-living colony of bald ibises from zoo offspring for the first time worldwide.

Further projects have emerged from the research. The Waldrappen team has set up shop in the Almtal and tries to teach the northern bald ibises the flight route to the south. For this purpose Ultralight used. In 2008, the Wolf Science Center was also located in Grünau, but in spring 2009 it moved to the Ernstbrunn Wildlife Park . Further behavioral observations take place in the neighboring Cumberland Wildlife Park .
