Constantine X. Dukas ( Κωνσταντῖνος Ι 'Δούκας ; * 1006 ; † May 22 or 23, 1067 ) from the Dukas family was Emperor of the Byzantine Empire from 1059 to 1067. He ascended the throne, already old and sick, on the advice of Michael Psellos and with the support of the nobility when Isaac I abdicated. Under Isaac he had been appointed proedros ( chairman ) of the senate. His sons Michael and Constantius (but not Andronikos ) he rose to Mitkaisern his brother John Doukas for Kaisar .

Konstantin was first married to a daughter of Konstantin Dalassenos , from around 1050 then married to Eudokia Makrembolitissa , the niece of Michael Kerularios . Eudokia dominated her husband's rule as did Michael Psellos. He was unpopular with the followers of Isaac, who tried to murder him in 1060. He also became unpopular with the common people when he raised taxes to finance the army ; this discontent led to a dangerous rebellion of the Thessalian guards in 1065/66 , who made the Protospatharios Nikulitzas Delphinas their leader.

The previous neglect of the army under his government had considerable consequences for the empire. Constantine lost most of Byzantine Italy - with the exception of the area around Bari - to the Normans and also suffered from the invasions of Alp Arslan in Asia Minor from 1064 to 1067, in which Armenia and Cilicia were lost, as well as the devastation of the Balkans by the Pechenegs and Uzen in autumn 1064.

After his death, he was followed by the rebellious Romanos IV , followed by his eldest son Michael VII.
