Konzum has more than 700 stores and employs around 11,400 people. More than 650,000 customers shop there every day. In addition to the retail trade, Konzum has also operated 21 wholesale markets under the name Velpro (similar to the German Metro Cash & Carry ) since 2003 . This wholesaler supplies more than 20,000 small grocers in Croatia. In the drugstore, the company is building a retail chain under the name Kozmo with currently 73 stores and a Kozmo vending machine. Konzum is also expanding outside the Croatian home market in Serbia (under the Idea brand) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (under the Konzum brand). With a share of 82.95%, the Agrokor Group is the company's largest shareholder.
In addition to branded products provides Konzum under the trademark K plus canned fruit, canned fish, sausage , cheese , beer , toiletries, fruit juices, coffee and tea at. The retail company has three logistics centers in Zagreb , Poreč and Split , from where the markets are supplied with goods.
history
The first supermarket opened in Zagreb in 1957 under the name Unikonzum . In 1970 Unikonzum opened the four merged retail chains Črnomerec, Konzum, Moslavka and Slavonija. Unikonzum was converted into a stock corporation in 1992. The Agrokor group took over the company in May 1994. A year later, Unikonzum was renamed to the still valid company name Konzum. After the company was only represented in the Zagreb area for many years, the first stores outside this region were opened in 2000, including in Pula , Crikvenica , Split , Bjelovar , Varaždin and Karlovac . At the same time, a new logistics center was put into operation in Zagreb , which at that time was the largest in Southeastern Europe.
Konzum launched its K Plus brand in 2001 and opened four large supermarkets called Super Konzum, two in Zagreb, one in Poreč and one in Split. There has been a super concert in Zagreb since December 1995. The company established its own customer loyalty program in 2002 and expanded towards Dalmatia . Expansion continued in 2003 with the opening of 70 new branches and an increase in the number of employees from 5,000 to 7,000. Konsum sales outlets have been available in all parts of Croatia since 2005. In 2006 the company opened its largest store to date, called Super Konzum Tower Centar, in Rijeka . Another nine Super Konzum stores followed in 2009, after 67 new Konzum stores had already opened in 2007. As of 2011, Konzum built another logistics and distribution center in Dugopolje with an area of 85,000 m², which it claims to be the largest in the region.
Markets
Konzum operates three different types of markets under its own brand (as of June 2013):
- Smaller stores operate under the name Konzum , which make up the largest part of the Croatian branch network.
- 32 medium-sized stores are currently operating in Croatia under the name Konzum Maxi .
- The Super Konzum branches, of which there are currently 52 in Croatia, represent the company's largest markets in terms of area.
