The Kopftörl is 2058  m above sea level. A. high mountain crossing in the Kaiser Mountains in the Northern Limestone Alps .

location

The Kopftörl is between the Ellmauer Halt (west) and the Vorderen Karlspitze (east). To the north is the Hohe Winkel (scree, steep Hochkar), to the south the terrain drops steeply with grass chaff and rock-strewn terrain towards Hochgrubachkar and from there further down to the Gruttenhütte in a grassy and partly overgrown manner .

route

A marked and frequently climbed path leads from the Wochenbrunneralm in the south, past the Gruttenhütte, up to the rocky connecting ridge of Ellmauer Halt and the Vorderen Karlspitze to the small slip to the south, the Kopftörl (partly insured section of the route). From the Kopftörl the marked route leads directly through a narrow gap in the rock past the 20 meter high Kaindl Stewart Tower (also called Kaindl Stewart Nadel) and then steeply down on initially hard ground (often into the autumn old snow field) and later over a lot Scree through the Hochkar Hoher Winkel until further down the path through the forest and over the Neustadler meadow leads down to the Hans-Berger-Haus . Alternatively, you can branch off to the right at Neustadler-Wiese up to the Stripsenjochhaus , which can also be reached via a shortcut directly from Hohen Winkel (although it is much more difficult because it is partly exposed, rocky, but partly insured).

The route is partly exposed from the Hochgrubachkar and therefore requires surefootedness, a head for heights and alpine experience. On the south side is a longer rock step that leads directly up to the Kopftörl. It is insured with wire ropes and defused with iron pins. The risk of falling rocks must be observed.
