The Koppe is a 353.8 m high mountain with a conical peak in the southwest of the Hörre . The mountain is 1.7 km west of Kölschhausen and 3.8 km north of Ehringshausen . To distinguish it from the Hirschberger Koppe , 8 km to the west, the mountain is also known as the Kölschhäuser Koppe .
In addition to being a nature reserve, the Koppe was previously known for the panoramic view it offered from its summit. Because trees have grown up, there is currently only a view to the south-south-east ( Eastern Taunus ) to south-south-west ( Daubhausen ).
The hiking trails H8 ('Hörre-Weg': Herborn - Hörre - Koppe - Edingen ) and the 'Köhlerweg' ('extra tour' in the Lahn-Dill-Bergland nature park : around Dreisbach ) lead past the mountain .
Nature reserve
The entire mountain cone is designated as a nature reserve with an area of 23.35 hectares. The area was established by ordinance of February 12, 1931 and confirmed by ordinance of August 24, 1976. The summit itself is covered with beech forest, while the edge of the forest in the south and east is formed by heather-like vegetation made of pine, birch and juniper.
Within the nature reserve, basalt layers have become visible on the mountain top through two former quarries , which show themselves in a remarkably regular columnar shape. This basalt outcrop is designated as a geological attraction in the Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus Geopark .
