Korey Stringer Damont (* 8. May 1974 in Warren , Ohio ; † 1. August 2001 in Mankato , Minnesota ) was an American American football poker players on the position of the defensive tackles . Stringer played for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL) for six years . He died during a training camp before the 2001 season to a heat stroke .

Career

NFL

The Minnesota Vikings selected Stringer in the 1995 NFL Draft in the first round as the 24th player. The 1.93 meter tall and 152 kilogram heavy defensive tackle had a place on the starting team for six years. In his final season in 2000 , he was elected to the Pro Bowl .

Death and consequences

On August 1, 2001, Korey Stringer suffered a sudden heat stroke during a normal training session and died as a result. After his death, his wife took legal action against both the NFL and Riddell Sports Group , the manufacturer of Stringers helmet and shoulder protectors. As a consequence, the league introduced an extensive prevention program against heat damage. Riddell Inc. has been charged with failing to make Stringer aware of the potential dangers. They were committed to improving their products.
