Kornel Saláta (born January 24, 1985 in Kamenica nad Hronom , Czechoslovakia , now Slovakia ) is a Slovak football player . The defender , who can also be used in defensive midfield, has been under contract with KFC Komárno in the second Slovak division since 2019 .

Club career

Saláta played for FK Štúrovo in his youth. In the 2005/06 season, the tall defender ran on for FK Matador Púchov before moving to Artmedia Petržalka in the summer of 2006 . In 2007 Saláta was loaned to Dukla Banská Bystrica , then he returned to Petržalka and won with the team in 2008 both the Slovak championship and the Slovak cup competition. In the summer of 2009, the defensive player with a strong header and a dangerous goal scorer moved to ŠK Slovan Bratislava , with whom he became Slovak runner-up and won the national cup competition. In January 2011 he moved to FK Rostov .
At the end of July 2013, Salata was loaned to Tom Tomsk.

National team

Saláta made his debut on May 24, 2008 in the Slovak national team , which lost 2-0 to Switzerland that day in Lugano . He was in the Slovak squad for the finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa .

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Slovak squad. He was not considered in the three group games, but as the last of the 21 field players he still got a European Championship appearance when he was substituted on in the last sixteen against Germany when the score was 3-0 in the final minutes.
