Kornylo Mykolajowytsch Ustyjanowytsch ( Ukrainian Корнило Миколайович Устиянович * 22. September 1839 in Wowkiw , Galicia , Empire of Austria ; † 22. July 1903 in Dovhe , Galicia, Austria-Hungary ) was a Ukrainian painter, illustrator, cartoonist, writer, poet, playwright , Essayist and humorist.

Ustyjanowytsch is one of the founders of the national school of realistic painting in Galicia.

Life

Kornylo Ustyjanowytsch was born in Vovkiw, Galicia, in what is now the Pustomyty district of the Ukrainian Lviv Oblast . He studied from 1858 to 1863 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and then traveled through Galicia and Bukovina . In 1867 he toured Saint Petersburg and in 1872 Kiev .

Ustyjanowytsch created paintings and drawings on biblical and historical subjects, genre pictures of village life, landscape pictures and more than 40 portraits, etc. a. by Anatol Wachnjanyn (1841–1908), Stepan Katschala (1815–1888), Tyt Rewakowytsch (1846–1919), Teofil Okunewskyj (1858–1937), Julian Lawriwskyj (1819–1873) and Mychajlowytsch Borkowskyj (1841–1921). His painting “ Shevchenko in Exile” became famous, but most often he painted monumental pictures in churches. He created icons for more than 50 churches, 15 iconostases and 11 wall paintings.

He first appeared as a poet in the late 1860s. In the 1870s he published his historical poems "Iskorosten", "Swjatoslaw Chorobryj", "Wadym", the tragedies such as "Oleh Swjatoslawowytsch Owruzkyj" and "Jaropolk Perschyj Swjatoslawowytsch, welykyj knjas kyjiwskyj". In the years 1882/83 he edited and illustrated the satirical and humorous magazine. Serkalo . He died at the age of 63 in the Galician Dowhe ( Довге ) in what is now Drohobych Rajon of Ukraine.
