The Kossau is a brook in the Plön district in eastern Schleswig-Holstein . It forms the outflow of the Rixdorfer Teich near Rixdorf , flows through the Tresdorfer See , flows past Lütjenburg and flows into the Großer Binnensee .

At the level of Gut Rantzau , it was dammed into a lake from the Middle Ages until the 18th century. Her way is about 25 kilometers, most of which she meanders . Its valley is cut up to 60 meters into the surrounding hilly moraine landscape , making it one of the deepest valleys in Schleswig-Holstein. The course of the stream is largely in its natural state and, together with the wet meadows of the narrow valley floor, forms a species-rich habitat. The Kossau valley is a nature reserve .
