The Kothener Busch is a wooded local recreation area in the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Wuppertal .

Location and description

The forest area, which has been used as a recreation area since the 19th century, is located in the Unterbarmen district in the area of ​​the Kothen and Lichtenplatz residential areas . It extends from 230 meters above sea level. NN up to 320 meters above sea level. NN up the Wuppertaler Südhöhen and is bounded in the north and east by the Obere Lichtenplatzer Straße (Landesstraße 419) and in the west by the valley of the Auer Bach . In the north of the Kothener Busch are the allotment gardens Kothen , Kothener Wald , in the east the allotment gardens Springen and in the south the allotment gardens Lichtenplatz . The Wupperweg and the Residenzenweg cross the forest area.

The Kothener Busch is designated as a 58.6 hectare landscape protection area. A former quarry in the form of a ravine , designated as a natural monument , forms an interesting geological structure in the forest area.

In autumn 2011, Wuppertal's first legal downhill route was opened in the Kothener Busch .
