features

Kottelatia brittani has an elongated, laterally flattened body that reaches a maximum length of 5 cm. The head is pointed, the lower jaw without a symphysis button. The body is brass-colored, the back darker, the belly silvery. On the front body there is a thin, silvery line, on the tail fin stalk a black spot above and below which a red spot lies. With the exception of the first two to three rays of the dorsal fin, which are orange at the base , all fins are colorless and transparent. The iris is silvery, its top is golden. Systematics

The species was assigned to the collective genus Rasbora by Herbert R. Axelrod in the first description . In 2009 Liao, Kullander & Fang established the genus Kottelatia for the species . The name was given in honor of the Swiss ichthyologist Maurice Kottelat . The specific epithet brittani is a dedication name for MR Brittan, who in 1954 published a revision of the genus Rasbora . According to Tang et al. (2010) The species is, however, as a sister species of Schönflossenbärblings ( Rasbora kalochroma ) deep within Rasbora sensu lato .
