history

Kotzau (also: Kotzaw, Kozau) is mentioned in the Salbuch from 1366. In the Thirty Years War Kotzau was completely robbed and devastated. It was not until 1700 that the forester Wilhelm von Weveld leased the property for 6 years and set up a sheep farm with a shepherd and a servant on it.

In the register of 1759 there are 11 male residents in Kotzau. The register from 1792 names 4 official subjects for Kotzau. In 1800 Kotzau was a wasteland with 2 farms and 3 residents.

The wasteland of Kotzau belonged to the Meerbodenreuth tax district founded at the beginning of the 19th century . Meerbodenreuth was also a direct rural community. In addition to Kotzau, the hamlet of Buch and the wastelands of Süßenlohe and Waldhof (Moosöd) also belonged to the municipality and the tax district of Meerbodenreuth. Together with the municipality of Meerbodenreuth, Kotzau was incorporated into the municipality of Altenstadt an der Waldnaab on July 1, 1975.
