history

Süßenlohe (also: Suessenloe) was mentioned in the interest register from 1514. The tax book of 1588 listed Süßenlohe with 1 farm, 1 farmer, 3 horses, 1 colt, 8 cows, 6 young cattle, 3 pigs, 95 sheep, 4 goats, 1 beehive. In 1636 the farm in Süßenlohe was dilapidated and desolate and there was only one cow left. A directory from 1702 named a farm and an official subject on Süßenlohe. In 1759 there were 5 male residents and in 1792 there was a subordinate and a shepherd. Around 1800 there was a farm, a Mauthäusl, 3 houses and 15 residents in Süßenlohe.

The desert of Süßenlohe belonged to the Meerbodenreuth tax district, which was founded at the beginning of the 19th century . Meerbodenreuth was also a direct rural community. In addition to Süßenlohe, the hamlet of Buch and the wastelands of Kotzau and Waldhof (Moosöd) also belonged to the municipality and the Meerbodenreuth tax district. Together with the municipality of Meerbodenreuth, Süßenlohe was incorporated into the municipality of Altenstadt an der Waldnaab on July 1, 1975.
