The power plant Belle River is a coal fired power plant of DTE Energy in Michigan . It is directly opposite the older St. Clair power station and shares with it the coal terminal on the St. Clair River , part of the Saint Lawrence River , on the border with Canada. Belle River burns low-sulfur coal from the western United States, which is transported over the great lakes.

The power plant was officially put into operation on October 11, 1985.

In 1999 three gas turbines were installed to cover peak loads with a total of 256 MW.
