Gert Bahner

Gert Bahner (born March 26, 1930 in Neuwiese ; † December 9, 2019 in Leipzig ) was a German general music director and conductor . From 1980 he was director of the Leipzig Opera .

Life

Bahner came from the Neuwieser locksmith family of Kurt and Martha Bahner and had piano lessons from the age of eight. He attended high school in Lichtenstein / Sa. where he graduated from high school. In 1949 he went to the music academy in Leipzig as a student , which he attended until 1954. He successfully completed the conducting class and in the same year received a position as a solo repetitor at the Komische Oper in Berlin. In 1958 he moved as a young conductor to the Hans-Otto-Theater in Potsdam , where he was appointed musical senior director and later music director. In 1962 he was appointed musical senior director and general music director at the municipal theaters in Karl-Marx-Stadt . There he directed the orchestra of the opera house until 1965. Then he was given the position of First Kapellmeister at the Komische Oper in Berlin. In 1968 he was appointed musical director there too. Several world premieres took place under his direction of the orchestra of the Komische Oper in Berlin, for example a new clarinet concerto by Manfred Schubert in 1972 .

In 1974 he moved to the Opera House in Leipzig in this role. In 1976 he took over the management of the opera ensemble there and in 1980 the management of the Leipzig Opera.

As a guest conductor Gert Bahner u. a. active in the Soviet Union, the ČSSR, in Cuba, in Poland, in Yugoslavia, in Holland, in Austria and in Sweden. From 1976 to 1980 he also worked at the Leipzig Music Academy .
