The Castrelo (or Castrelo de Miño ) power plant is a run-of-river power plant in the municipality of Ribadavia , Province of Ourense , Spain . It dams the Miño into a reservoir. The power plant was completed in 1969. It is owned by Naturgy and operated by Naturgy.

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of a weir system with five weir fields on the right side of the river and a machine house on the left. The height above the foundation level is 30 m. The top of the wall is at a height of 90 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 173 m. The volume of the structure is 109,000 m³.

A maximum of 9748 m³ / s can be discharged via the weir system. The design flood is 8650 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 88 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 5.6 (or 7.9) km² and holds 60 (or 66) million m³ of water; 33 million m³ of this can be used.

Castrelo I

The installed capacity of the power plant is 112 (or 126 or 135.59) MW . Each of the two Kaplan turbines has a maximum output of 56 (or 58.58) MW. A check of the actual output of machine 2, which took place from April 24 to April 25, 2001, found a value of 58.58 MW. The fall height is 21.5 m. The flow rate is 374 m³ / s.

Castrelo II

The operator at the time, Gas Natural SDG, SA, wanted to build another power plant on the right bank in 2013. The installed capacity of the new power plant is to be 16.7 MW with a Kaplan turbine. The maximum flow should be 105 m³ / s.
