The Frieira power plant is a run-of-river power plant in the municipality of Creciente , Pontevedra province , Spain . It dams the Miño into a reservoir. Construction of the power plant began in the 1960s; it was completed in 1970. The power plant is owned by Naturgy operated and run by Naturgy.

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of a machine house on the right side of the river, a weir system with seven weir fields in the middle and a machine house on the left side. The height above the foundation level is 33 m. The top of the wall lies at a height of 69 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 194 m. The volume of the structure is 118,000 m³.

A maximum of 11,147 m³ / s can be discharged via the weir system. The design flood is 10,000 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 67 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 4.66 km² and holds 44 million m³ of water; 38 million m³ of this can be used.

power plant

Frieira I

The installed capacity of the power plant is 130 (or 145 or 160.61) MW . Each of the two Kaplan turbines has a maximum output of 65 (or 72) MW. When the actual output of machine 2 was checked, which took place from April 24 to April 26, 2001, a value of 72.12 MW was determined. The fall height is 24.5 m. The flow rate is 374 m³ / s.

Frieira II

By 2010 another power plant and a fish ladder had been built on the right bank . The installed capacity of the new power plant is 17.54 MW. The drop height is 25 m and the flow is 80 m³ / s.
