The Velle power plant ( Spanish Central de Velle ) is a run-of-river power plant near the city of Ourense , Ourense province , Spain . It dams the Miño into a reservoir. The construction of the power station began in August 1962; it went into operation in June 1966. The power plant is owned by Naturgy operated and run by Naturgy.

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of a weir system with five weir fields on the right side of the river and a machine house on the left. The height above the foundation level is 26 (or 27) m. The top of the wall is at a height of 110 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 195 m. The volume of the structure is 55,000 m³.

A maximum of 8214 m³ / s can be discharged via the weir system. The design flood is 8000 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 108 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 2.6 (or 2.63) km² and holds 17 million m³ of water.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 80 (or 81 86.48 or 90) MW . The average annual production is 165 million kWh . Each of the two Kaplan turbines has a maximum output of 40 (or 40.6) MW. The nominal speed of the turbines is 75 revolutions per minute. The fall height is 13 m. The flow rate is 374 m³ / s. In the switchgear , the generator voltage is increased from 11 kV to 240 kV using power transformers.
