The Hera power plant is a combined gas and oil power plant in East Timor . It is the main supplier for the state capital Dili and the municipality of Liquiçá . The power plant is located east of the city of Dili in Suco Hera ( administrative office of Cristo Rei ). It belongs to the Electricidade de Timor-Leste (EDTL).
The power plant was originally supposed to be built by a Chinese consortium, which withdrew. Then Polish companies continued the construction until the Finnish company Wärtsilä took over in 2011, in cooperation with some Polish subcontractors. Wärtsilä also supplied the generators.
The power plant has been in operation since November 29, 2011. It has seven generators , which can be operated with heavy oil , light oil and natural gas , and has an installed capacity of 119 MW .
The power plant has been operated by Wärtsilä since 2012. The operator contract with EDTL runs until 2022.
