The power plant Inkoo was a coal power plant in the municipality of Inkoo , landscape Uusimaa , Finland , which at the Gulf of Finland, about 55 km west of the capital Helsinki was. It was owned by Fortum and was operated by Fortum.
With an installed capacity of 1,000 MW , Inkoo was the most powerful coal-fired power plant in Finland. In recent years it has served as a reserve power station and to cover peak loads .
history
The power plant went into operation with the first unit in 1974; the remaining units followed until 1978. The power plant was shut down in 2014 due to weak demand and lower electricity prices. Blocks 1 to 3 were initially mothballed, while Block 4 was finally closed because it had not been in operation since 2008. At the end of 2016, Fortum then decided that Inkoo should be demolished. The demolition work started in spring 2017; they should be completed by 2019.
