The power plant Money Point ( English Money Point Power Station , Irish Stáisiúin Chumhachta Ghob na Muine ) is a coal power plant in County Clare , Ireland , on the estuary of the Shannon km east around 8 the city Kilrush is located.
The power plant went into operation in 1985. It is owned and operated by the Electric Supply Board (ESB) and is also operated by ESB.
Data
With an installed capacity of 915 MW , Moneypoint is one of the most powerful power plants in Ireland (as of July 2016). It serves to cover the base load . The annual production is around 7 billion kWh , which corresponds to 25% of the electricity consumption in Ireland. The power plant requires around 7,000 t of coal a day or around 2 million t per year.
Power plant units
The power plant consists of a total of 3 units that went into operation from 1985 to 1987. The following table gives an overview:

Others
The power plant has its own pier where ships up to 250,000 t can dock. Up to 600,000 t of coal can be temporarily stored in the storage areas. In addition, Moneypoint has 2 tanks that can store up to 50,000 tons of heavy fuel oil , which is used as a back-up.
Moneypoint should go offline in 2025. A nuclear power plant at the same location is also being discussed as a replacement for the power plant.
