The Aisol dam ( Spanish Represa Aisol or Dique Aisol ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the province of Mendoza , Argentina . It dams the Río Atuel into a small reservoir. The dam and the associated power station Nihuil II (span. Central hidroeléctrica Nihuil II ) are also known as the Nihuil II hydroelectric power plant complex (span. Complejo hidroeléctrico Nihuil II ).
The dam is used to generate electricity. Construction began in 1967. It was completed in 1969. The dam and the hydroelectric power station are state-owned ( Provincia de Mendoza ). The concession for the operation was transferred to Hidroeléctrica Nihuiles SA on June 1, 1994.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 40 m above the river bed . The top of the wall is at an altitude of 1069 m above sea level . The length of the wall crown is 85 m, its width at the crown 5.5 m. The volume of the barrier structure is 30,635 m³. The dam wall has both a flood relief and a bottom outlet . A maximum of 600 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood discharge, and a maximum of 15 m³ / s via the bottom outlet.
Reservoir
The normal storage destination is between 1061.5 and 1067.5 m. With a storage target of 1067.5 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.067 (or 0.08) km² and holds 0.45 (or 0.67 or 0.71) million m³ of water. The minimum storage destination is 1058.5 m.
power plant
The Nihuil II power plant was built from 1963 to 1968. The power plant's machine house is located about 10 km downstream from the dam on the right bank of the river. The installed capacity is 131.2 (or 133.12 136.2 or 139.2) MW . The average annual generation is given as 316 (or 380) million kWh . Annual production fluctuates: in 2000 it was 324 million kWh and in 2006 it was 544 million kWh.
Of the total of 6 Francis turbines, 4 each generate a maximum of 20 (or 22) MW and the two remaining 25.6 MW each. The nominal speed of the turbines is 428 min −1 . The drop height is between 174.7 and 180.7 m. The flow rate is 13 m³ / s each for the first 4 turbines and 15 m³ / s each for the other two turbines.
