The North Bangkok power plant is a combined cycle power plant in Bang Kruai County, Nonthaburi Province , Thailand .
The installed capacity of the power plant is 1550 MW . Construction of the power plant began in December 2006; the first unit went into operation in September 2010. The power plant is owned by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and is also operated by EGAT.
Power plant units
The power plant consists of two blocks. The following table gives an overview:
block | unit | Max. Power (MW) | Start of operation | turbine | generator | Steam boiler |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | 221 | 2010 | GE | Hitachi | CMI |
2 | 221 | 2010 | GE | Hitachi | CMI | |
3 | 262 | 2010 | GE | Hitachi | ||
2 | 1 | 425 | 2016 | Alstom | Alstom | Alstom |
2 | 425 | 2016 | Alstom | Alstom | Alstom |
Unit 1 consists of two gas turbines and a downstream steam turbine . A waste heat steam generator is connected to each of the two gas turbines ; the waste heat steam generator then supplies the steam turbine.
The contract for Block 2 was awarded to Alstom in February 2013; it went into operation in January 2016. In the two units of block 2, the gas and steam turbines are connected to a common shaft ( single-shaft ).
Others
The costs for the construction of Unit 1 are given as USD 590 million , those for Unit 2 as USD 500 million.
