Krallice is an experimental extreme metal band from New York City that was formed in 2008.

history

Mick Barr and Colin Marston worked the first time in 2006 for a Split - EP of their respective bands Orthrelm and Behold ... the Arctopus together, both from the environment of progressive metal and Mathcore . With Lev Weinstein, they founded Krallice in 2008. According to Barr, the band name is a fantasy word. In July of the same year they released their self-titled debut album on the Canadian independent label Profound Lore , which was highly praised by the music press.

Nick McMaster, who had already contributed additional vocals for Krallice , finally joined the band as bassist. For the second album Dimensional Bleedthrough , which followed in November 2009, he also designed the cover art. The third album Diotima from 2011, the songs of which were mostly written during the recording for Dimensional Bleedthrough , is considered the best release of the band.

In July 2011 the EP Orphan of Sickness was also made available for free download on Bandcamp , Years Past Matter was self-published and as a download in August 2012. The band also self-published the album Ygg Huur on July 30, 2015 . On the Hathenter label followed in 2016 and 2017 further releases with mostly shorter playing times, including a collaboration with Dave Edwardson from Neurosis .

style

Krallice play fast, technical Extreme Metal with blastbeats , repetitive riffs and complex structures that often create a hypnotic atmosphere. Many songs are longer than 10 minutes. There are influences from black metal , minimal music and progressive rock .

Most of the songs are purely instrumental. The song consists of screams; the lyrics are practically incomprehensible. Mick Barr sees no concept behind the lyrics, they mostly arise in the process of the stream of consciousness . The band renounces the scene-typical, ideological appearance as Satanists with corpsepaint and sees Black Metal as a purely musical form of expression.
