The wreath loop ( Stephanotis floribunda ) is a species of the genus Stephanotis in the subfamily of the silk plants (Asclepiadoideae).

distribution

The home of the wreath loop is in mountainous regions of Madagascar . But it is also found wild in the Eastern Cape Province . It is very sensitive to frost, but is often cultivated as a houseplant in Central Europe .

description

The wreath loop is an evergreen climbing shrub that grows to about 4 to 5 meters high. The leather-like leaves are up to about 5 × 9 cm in size; they are glossy dark green. The flowers are in axillary umbels . The flowers are white and waxy; they give off a pleasant scent. The flowering period in the northern hemisphere extends from June to September. The wreath loop forms large plum-like fruits, which, however, rarely set in specimens cultivated as indoor plants. The fruits ripen for a year; when ripe they jump up and release the brown, silvery flocked seeds.

The wreath loop is a popular houseplant. In winter it needs a resting temperature of around 12 to 15 ° C so that it can bloom abundantly for several years in a row.

Multiplication

Specimens raised from seeds are often less floriferous than the mother plant.
