Kraschowans
The krashovani ( kroat. Kraševani ; also Karašovani , Krašovanje , Karaševci or Koroševci called; Cyrillic notation Крашовани ; Engl. Krashovani or Krashovans ; rum. Caraşoveni , Cârşoveni , Cotcoreţi or Cocosi ) are a South Slavic ethnic group, which in the area around Caraşova and other nearby villages in Caraș-Severin County in Romania (historical Banat region ).
The population of this ethnic group is estimated at around 5,000 people. In the 2002 Romanian census , 207 people indicated their ethnicity as "Kraschowans" (in 1992 there were 2,775 people). The majority of the ethnic group members identify themselves as Croatians today .
The Kraschowans can be found in seven Banat villages. They form a majority in two municipalities in Caraș-Severin County: Carașova and Lupac . The other five villages are Clocotici , Iabalcea , Nermet , Rafnic and Vodnic .
Language and religion
The Krashovan language is an archaic dialect of South Slavic, which otherwise only survived in the area of eastern and southern Serbia , in the Republic of Macedonia , Bulgaria and in the Timok Valley around the city of Zaječar .
The Kraschowans are of the Roman Catholic faith.
