The von Krauchthal family was a Zähring family of ministers . The family name seems to go back to the village of Krauchthal in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

history

In 1181 Heinrich von Krauchthal was first mentioned in a document as a ministerial of Duke Berchtold IV von Zähringen . The family owned various estates around the cities of Bern, Burgdorf and in the Bernese Oberland and was considered one of the richest families in the city of Bern. Petermann von Krauchthal died childless in 1425. With him, the Krauchthal family died out in the male line.
