The Szekszárd district (Hungarian Szekszárdi járás ) is a district in the southeast of the southern Hungarian Tolna County . It borders Bonyhád and Tamási counties in the west , Paks county in the northeast and Tolna county in the east . In the southeast forming circle Baja from the Bács-Kiskun the border.

history

During the Hungarian administrative reform in early 2013, the district emerged from the small area of the same name (Hungarian Szekszárdi kistérség ). 17 of the 26 municipalities in the small area were taken over (63.6% of the area or 71.2% of the population at the time). The other 9 municipalities went to the districts of Bonyhád and Tolna (4 municipalities each) and Paks (1).

The district seat is located in the largest city, Szekszárd , almost in the middle of the district. Szekszárd is also the administrative center of Tolna County and has county rights (Hungarian Megyei jogú város ).
