The Oberamtssparkasse Ravensburg was founded on August 28, 1822 at Marktstrasse 22 by Oberamtssparkasse Franz Theodor Wirth. In 1920 the first main branch was opened in Weingarten. The main branch was relocated to the centrally located Waaghaus in 1931, which is still used today as a city branch. In 1956 the head office with 108 employees was relocated to a newly built building on the southern Marienplatz, in which the first ATM in the Oberland was installed in 1969. In the same year, a new building for the branch of what was then Sparkasse Wangen was moved into in Wangen.

After the districts of Wangen and Ravensburg were merged, the Sparkasse Wangen was also incorporated into the Kreissparkasse Ravensburg in 1973. In 1987 the new post-modern building designed by the architect Heinz Mohl was moved to the west of the old town; the main office has been there ever since. The Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Ravensburg is now housed in the old building on Marienplatz .

In 1996, the Kreissparkasse took part in the field test for the cash card as a pilot city. In 1998 the main branch in Meersburger Strasse was expanded with an extension.
