education

Rose, who received violin lessons as a child and adolescent, studied law , economics and political science at the University of Konstanz , where he received his diploma in administrative science . During his studies, he worked in the administration of the orchestra of the Beethovenhalle Bonn and as the organizer of the musical celebrations for the 175th anniversary of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 2004 he also studied American cultural management as part of an Eisenhower Fellowship in the United States.

Professional Activities

From 1996 to 2000 he worked as the commercial director and sole responsible managing director of the Bergische Symphoniker . During this time he also worked as an expert on orchestral tariff law on the tariff committee of the German Stage Association . In 2000 he was appointed Managing Director of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra . He became managing director of the Munich Symphony Orchestra in 2002. He brought the German Orchestra Day into being, the industry meeting of German orchestra managers (directors, directors or managing directors) has been held annually since 2003.

From 2005 to 2014 he was artistic director of the Dresden Philharmonic . Due to the death of his predecessor Olivier von Winterstein , he had been advising the orchestra since summer 2004. In 2008 the city of Dresden extended the contract with Rose until the end of 2014. From summer 2004 (contract conclusion: early 2005), Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos led the Dresden Philharmonic until the end of the season 2010/2011. The musicologist Dieter Härtwig praised the collaboration between Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and Anselm Rose in 2013: During this time, the Dresden Philharmonic had “due to internationality and prominence of guest conductors such as soloists, but also due to increased, highly successful touring in many music centers in Europe, America and Asia ”had a formative effect. Anselm Rose also played a key role in promoting the renovation of the Kulturpalast from 2005 to 2014 .

After it became clear that Frühbeck's successors Michael Sanderling and Anselm Rose had a "fundamentally different view" about the future direction of the orchestra, Rose decided not to extend the contract. He then worked as a cultural manager, including for a management consultancy from Schwerin .

Since April 1, 2018 he has been the sole managing director of Rundfunk-Orchester und -Chöre gGmbH , which acts as the supporting company for the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin , the Rundfunkchor Berlin and the RIAS Chamber Choir .

Anselm Rose has been teaching culture, theater and orchestra management since 2007 , among others at the Lower Saxony State Music Academy ( Wolfenbüttel ), the Dresden International University and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts .

Others

The news magazine Der Spiegel reported in January 2010 that Rose had the ode to the Red Flag played against the declared will of the orchestra musicians of the Dresden Philharmonic at the 2010 New Year's Concert in Beijing . Orchestra board member Günther Naumann, however, called corresponding representations "an invention".
