history
From the “Spar-Casse der Stadt Verden” to the Kreissparkasse Verden
On October 13, 1833 something unique happened in the history of the Sparkasse: three men who had been pioneers for a Sparkasse for years agreed to compensate the Verden City Treasury for any loss that the Sparkasse might incur for three years. This cleared the way for the establishment of the “Spar-Casse der Stadt Verden”, which began operations on January 1, 1834.
On January 1, 1855, the Vereinssparkasse opened its doors in Achim. At the insistence of the Royal Landdrostei Stade , it was converted into a savings bank on November 1, 1860, under the guarantee of the municipal authorities in Achim, as there were concerns about the security of the deposits.
The Amtssparkasse Verden was established on November 15, 1872 as the third savings bank in what is now the district of Verden.
Originally, the savings banks were dependent municipal institutions. As a result of the banking crisis of 1931, they became legally independent, but without losing their communal ties.
After the Verden and Achim districts were merged on October 1, 1932, the three savings banks were merged on May 1, 1935 to form the Verden District Savings Bank. From January 1, 1963 this was changed to Kreissparkasse Verden.
